An increasing number of travelers to India are visiting atleast one national park or sanctuary. If you intend doing so, wherever possible, book in advance for transport and accommodation and check whether a permit is require. Most Park offer jeep/Van tours and some have both trips and elephant safaris to approach wildlife more discreetly.
India has 93 National Park and 486 Wildlife Sanctuaries, which constitute about 4.7 % of the entire country and play a paramount role in flora and fauna protection. There are 14 biosphere reserves, established to conserve the diversity of eco systems and promote research into ecological conservation. |
Gir National Park
In the southwest of the peninsular state of Gujarat, lies the 116 square-mile Gir sanctuary created to protect the last wild population of Lion outside the African regions. |
Sultanpur Wildlife Sanctuary
Sultanpur, 46 kms. from Delhi, it is a green haven with a lake and wild birds. Sultanpur was declared a water-bird reserve in 1972 and its grounds are lush with lawns and trees and shrubs and masses of bougainvillea. |
Manas National Park
Manas National Park is situated on the foothills of the Himalayas and a part of it extends to Bhutan. It was declared a sanctuary on October 01, 1928 and was designated a World Heritage site in December 1985. |
Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary

Sariska National Park

Panna National Park
